Privacy Statement
This statement describes the information collected via InformEd.ca, how we collect and use that information, and how we protect your privacy. As a member organization, operating under the Society Act of British Columbia, InformEd collects mainly member-related information that is already in the public domain. However, as some information collected may be considered confidential or personal information, we adhere to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of British Columbia.
What information is collected
- We do not collect information unless you volunteer it. When you do provide information, we collect basic contact information in order to compile a list of members for circulation in printed and electronic formats to our members. This includes name, institution, telephone, and email address. In addition, we require a login ID and password so that members can access the members only section of the web site.
- When you visit the site, our web server automatically collects a small amount of information to help us manage and improve the services on InformEd.ca. This information is kept in aggregate form, and is never used to track an individual's use of the web site. The information tracked includes operating system type, browser type and pages visited.
- For the most part, you can use InformEd.ca without revealing your identity. In some cases, we use 'cookies' to track your visit. A cookie is a small amount of data that is transfered to your computer by a web server which can only be read by the server that gave it to you. It is not executable code, nor does it contain viruses. While you can disable the use of cookies in your browser, note that this may affect the operation of some parts of InformEd.ca, mainly those that require you to login.
- When you send us email, we collect your email address and message so that we may reply to you.
Protecting your privacy
- We do not sell, trade, or otherwise disclose any member information to third parties, except as required by law.
- We do not keep data on individual visitors to the web site.
Email messages
- Email you send to us is not encrypted, and therefore may be intercepted by others without your knowledge or consent. You should not email information to us that you consider confidential.
- Email that we send to you (if you select to receive messages) is sent in plain text format and is not used to track message use or to gather any personally identifiable information.
